[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Hanwha Ocean said in a public announcement on the 25th that it has recently won an order for eight liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers worth 2.4393 trillion won from shipowners in Oceania.

This contract is a follow-up to Hanwha Ocean's Memorandum of Understanding (MOA) on 12 LNG carriers signed with shipping companies in the Middle East on February 29. The two sides are reviewing the details ahead of the signing of the main contract for the remaining four vessels.

The specific contract partner was marked as 'Oceania regional shipowner' and considering the amount of orders, Qatar Energy, Qatar's state-owned energy company, is estimated. The contract expires on January 31, 2028.

Hanwha Ocean has won 12 ships and 2.35 billion dollars (about 3.154 trillion won) so far this year. By ship, there are eight LNG carriers, two large crude oil carriers (VLCC) and two ammonia carriers (VLAC).
