[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Sangjin] Amid rising concerns over poor third-quarter performance, Samsung Electronics has dropped two spots in Forbes' "World's Best Employers" rankings, now placing third among major global companies.
According to Forbes' recently published results on the 10th, Samsung, which held the top position for four consecutive years since 2020, has been overtaken by Microsoft (1st) and Google's parent company Alphabet (2nd).
The rankings were based on a survey conducted by Forbes in collaboration with German research firm Statista, involving over 300,000 employees from multinational companies across more than 50 countries. Employees were asked to evaluate their employers on factors like willingness to recommend the company to friends or family, compensation, talent development, and remote work options. The survey maintained anonymity, ensuring that companies could not influence the results.
Samsung's slip in the rankings follows ongoing challenges, including a nearly 15 trillion won loss in its semiconductor division, dissatisfaction with performance bonuses, and labor unrest. In July, the company faced its first-ever general strike led by the National Samsung Electronics Union. Additionally, the company has been dealing with labor disputes, including a radiation exposure accident at its Giheung plant and a month-long strike at its India appliance factory.
