[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] Samsung Electronics plans to launch the Galaxy Book5 Pro, a laptop that combines its proprietary AI with cloud-based generative AI services, early next year.

On December 15, Samsung announced that the Galaxy Book5 Pro will feature both its in-house AI, Galaxy AI, and Microsoft’s AI model, Copilot+, and is scheduled for release in South Korea on January 2, 2025.

Lee Min-chul, Vice President and Head of the Galaxy Eco Biz Team in Samsung’s MX (Mobile Experience) division, stated, “This product is designed to enable AI functionality through a hybrid approach, integrating cloud-based and on-device methods. The AI Select feature operates via the cloud, while the rest functions are entirely on-device.”

On-device processing refers to a method where computations are handled directly on the device itself without relying on an internet connection.
