[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] Tesla, which recalled 1.85 million vehicles in the U.S. last month, is now recalling an additional 9,000 vehicles for a similar issue.

On the 21st, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that Tesla is conducting a recall to address a problem where roof trim pieces might detach from the vehicle. The recall affects 9,136 Model X vehicles manufactured between September 2015 and July 2016, with an estimated defect rate of around 10%.

Tesla first identified this issue in 2020 and has since conducted related recalls, but the problem persisted. The company reported receiving 170 repair requests or complaints related to this issue, but no accidents have occurred. This recall will involve physically inspecting the vehicles at service centers and replacing the trim pieces if necessary, marking a rare instance of a physical repair recall as opposed to a software update.

Tesla has been dealing with frequent recalls, including a December recall of 2.03 million vehicles in the U.S. to install new safety features in the autopilot system. Last month, it recalled 1.85 million vehicles in the U.S. due to a software issue that failed to detect hood latch malfunctions, which could obstruct the driver’s view and increase accident risk. This issue also prompted a recall of 66,489 vehicles in South Korea.
