[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] Hanwha Aerospace will export its Korean multiple rocket launcher system, Cheonmu, to Estonia for the first time.
The Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) announced on December 21 (local time) that a government-to-government (G2G) export contract was signed with Estonia’s Defence Investment Agency (ECDI) under the Ministry of Defence. Under the deal, Hanwha Aerospace will supply six Cheonmu launchers and three types of missiles over the next three years, worth a total of €300 million (approximately 520 billion KRW). This marks the second Cheonmu export contract in Europe, following Poland.
Cheonmu is a core artillery system for the South Korean military, designed to counter North Korean short- and medium-range rockets, capable of firing high-explosive guided and dispersed guided missiles up to 80 km. In Europe, the system is gaining attention as a means to address firepower gaps highlighted by the Russia–Ukraine conflict and the growing need for long-range precision strike capability.
Kang Kyung-sung, President of KOTRA, said, “Since the K9 self-propelled howitzer export contract in 2018, the two countries have expanded defense cooperation based on trust. We hope the Cheonmu contract will further strengthen bilateral defense collaboration.”
