[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] HJ Heavy Industries announced on the 25th that it has signed a construction contract for four 7,900 TEU-class eco-friendly container ships, worth a total of 6.067 trillion won, with a European shipping company.

This order is similar to a previous contract secured in June with another European owner for four 7,900 TEU-class eco-friendly container ships. The company expects to benefit from increased productivity and profitability due to the repeated construction of the same ship type.

The ships to be built by HJ Heavy Industries are 272 meters long, 42.8 meters wide, and will operate at a speed of 22 knots. They feature the latest specifications and an environmentally friendly design.

With this contract, the company has now secured a total of eight 7,900 TEU-class container ships this year, with a contract value of 12 trillion won.

HJ Heavy Industries attributes its success in securing the contract to its world-class technology in the field of eco-friendly container ships. The company has been focusing on developing next-generation eco-friendly shipbuilding technologies, such as LNG dual-fuel powered container ships and carbon capture and storage container ships.
