[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] According to Electronic Times, Amazon Web Services (AWS), the world's No. 1 cloud service company, purchased the site and received a building permit to build its own data center in Korea.

The plan to invest about 8 trillion won in domestic cloud infrastructure by 2027 is expected to have an astronomical economic ripple effect.

AWS purchased land and other real estate in an industrial area near Bupyeong, Incheon, to build a data center. The buyer is Amazon Corporate Services Korea, which was invested by AWS.

Amazon Corporate recently received permission from the Incheon Metropolitan Government to build a new building on the land. The building consists of a total of five buildings, including one broadcasting and communication facility, which is the main purpose, and four data centers, which are auxiliary purposes.

AWS holds the top spot in the domestic cloud market with an overwhelming share. Recently, however, global competitors Microsoft (MS) and Google Cloud, as well as domestic cloud companies Naver Cloud, KT Cloud, and NHN Cloud, have been chasing.

In particular, the three domestic cloud companies are building their own data centers and enhancing their competitiveness based on public sector demand.

An official of AWS Korea said, "We can not confirm the data center construction and plan."
