[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Taiwan's TSMC, the world's largest foundry company, will set up two high-tech packaging plants in Taibao, Xi Prefecture, southwestern Taiwan, Liberty Times and other local media reported on the 19th.

According to reports, Deputy Director Chung Won-chan made the remarks after a meeting on the establishment of the TSMC plant at the Chiayi government, which was attended by the Minister of Economy, the chief member of the National Science and Technology Committee, the management director of the Nambu Science Complex, and the deputy general manager in charge of the operation of TSMC facilities.

TSMC currently operates five packaging plants in Taiwan and plans to build a sixth plant in the northern Tongluo region. The plant began construction at the end of 2024 and aims to mass-produce it in the third quarter of 2027.

Recently, there have been foreign media reports that TSMC is also considering building CoWos advanced packaging facilities in Japan.
