[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Microsoft, a key player in AI innovation alongside OpenAI, is reportedly preparing for another round of large-scale layoffs as early as next month, according to Bloomberg reports on June 18 (local time). Citing multiple sources familiar with the matter, Bloomberg stated that the job cuts could affect thousands of employees, primarily in the sales division, although other departments may also be impacted.

This restructuring comes just two months after Microsoft laid off approximately 6,000 to 7,000 employees in May—around 3% of its global workforce. At the time, the company cited the need for organizational realignment in response to rapidly changing market conditions.

If confirmed, the upcoming round of layoffs would be the largest since Microsoft’s January 2023 restructuring, which saw 10,000 jobs eliminated, mainly in the product and engineering divisions. Sales and marketing teams were largely unaffected during that phase.

As of 2023, Microsoft employed roughly 228,000 people worldwide, with about 45,000 working in sales and marketing roles.
