[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] South Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) announced Thursday that five major automakers—Volvo Cars Korea, Mercedes-Benz Korea, MAN Truck & Bus Korea, Jaguar Land Rover Korea, and Nissan Korea—will voluntarily recall a total of 117,925 imported vehicles across 49 models due to manufacturing defects.
According to the ministry, Volvo will recall 95,573 units of eight models, including the XC60, starting April 21, due to a software error in the event data recorder (EDR) that may result in driving information not being properly recorded. Additionally, 1,560 units of three models, including the XC60, will be recalled starting April 11 due to potential fire hazards caused by faulty drive battery cells.
Mercedes-Benz Korea will begin recalls on April 11 for 17,285 units of nine models, including the S 580 4MATIC, due to insufficient durability of brake hoses that may lead to brake fluid leakage.
MAN Truck & Bus Korea has already begun recalling 1,515 units of 24 models, including the TGX tractor, as of April 1. The issue involves the central vehicle control unit, which may experience an overload that can unexpectedly shift the gear from "Drive" to "Neutral."
Jaguar Land Rover Korea will recall 1,401 units of four models, including the New Range Rover P530 LWB, starting April 14. The recall addresses a defect in which moisture may enter the rearview camera, potentially preventing the rearview image from displaying properly.
Nissan Korea has begun recalling 591 units of the Pathfinder as of April 1. The recall is due to corrosion in the hood latch assembly that could cause the hood to open unexpectedly while driving.
Consumers can verify whether their vehicle is affected by entering their vehicle identification number (VIN) at the Automobile Recall Center’s website.
