[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] SK Earthon, the energy resource development subsidiary of SK Innovation, announced on November 24 that it has acquired a 34% stake in the North Ketapang exploration block in Indonesia from PETRONAS North Ketapang Sdn. Bhd.

Following the acquisition, SK Earthon will jointly conduct resource exploration in the block alongside PETRONAS North Ketapang (51% stake) and PT Pertamina Hulu Energi North Ketapang (15% stake).

Located offshore northeast of Java, the North Ketapang block is considered one of Indonesia’s most promising exploration areas. The region has been assessed as having high potential for additional oil discoveries, especially after successful findings in new geological layers near existing production zones.

Earlier in May, SK Earthon secured stakes in the Serpang and Binaiya blocks through Indonesia’s government-led competitive bidding process. With the latest acquisition, the company now holds interests in three blocks across Indonesia. Among them, the Serpang and North Ketapang blocks are adjacent offshore northeast of Java, creating strong potential for operational and commercial synergies.
