[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] On April 23, Naver Cloud announced that it will release three versions of its self-developed lightweight AI model, "HyperClova X Seed," as open-source at the "Tech Meetup" event held at Naver Square in Yeoksam, Seoul. The three models are categorized by the number of parameters: 3B (3 billion), 1.5B (1.5 billion), and 0.5B (500 million).

Seong Nak-ho, Naver Cloud's Head of HyperScale AI Technology, stated, "The biggest challenge companies face when applying AI models to real-world services is cost." He emphasized that lightweight models are practical even when companies want to apply AI functionalities partially, and Naver Cloud plans to continue improving and updating these models.

Starting from April 24, these three models will be available for commercial use at no cost. This marks the first time that a commercial AI model from a domestic company, HyperClova X Seed, has been made available for free. In contrast, LG AI Research’s AI model Exaone is only available for research purposes.

Kim Yoo-won, CEO of Naver Cloud, said, "By offering lightweight models that can be widely used without the burden of GPU resources, we aim to contribute to the activation of the AI ecosystem."

Naver’s decision to release these models for free is aimed at expanding the domestic AI ecosystem. Global tech giants like OpenAI and Google have already released several high-performance lightweight AI models, taking control of the market.
