[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] A subcontracted worker in his 50s, affiliated with Korea Power O&M—a partner company of KEPCO KPS—was found in cardiac arrest after becoming trapped in machinery at the Taean Thermal Power Plant, operated by Korea Western Power.
KEPCO KPS issued a statement on June 2 expressing condolences:
“We extend our deepest sympathies to the deceased and his family. Emergency services, including police and firefighters, responded to the scene and transported the victim by ambulance. The deceased is currently scheduled to be placed at Taean Medical Center.”
The company further explained that:
“The task being performed was not included in the day’s work order, and while we are working to determine the exact cause of the accident, it is currently difficult for us to conduct an internal investigation as police and labor authorities are carrying out their own official inquiries.”
KEPCO KPS emphasized that it will fully cooperate with the authorities:
“We will faithfully assist with the investigation and take appropriate follow-up measures, including preventive action, in accordance with the final findings.”
The accident occurred at approximately 2:30 PM, when the non-regular worker was caught in a lathe on the first floor of the KEPCO KPS Maintenance Building at the Taean power plant.
