[Alpha Biz= (Chicago) Kim Jisun & Kim Young Taek] Seoul, August 29, 2025 — Samsung Electronics is ramping up the final phase of construction at its semiconductor plant in Taylor, Texas, by deploying a large contingent of specialized personnel beginning in early September. The company aims to complete equipment installation by April next year and accelerate the timeline for production.

According to industry sources familiar with Samsung’s internal planning, the first wave of workers will be dispatched to the Taylor site in early September, with the remainder joining by November. “Samsung is expediting completion of the Taylor facility to meet the April 2026 deadline for equipment installation,” one source said, adding that the move is also part of a strategy to secure U.S.-based capacity in anticipation of tariffs on imported semiconductors.

The source further noted that operations at Samsung’s Austin plant, which had once dropped to a 40% utilization rate, have recently rebounded sharply.

Samsung’s push at the Taylor site comes on the heels of a KRW 22.8 trillion AI chip supply deal signed last month with Tesla, marking a pivotal moment for the company’s U.S. foundry operations.

Once cleanroom installation is completed in November, the Taylor fab is scheduled to sequentially receive equipment ranging from wafer handling and storage automation systems to front-end lithography and deposition tools, as well as back-end inspection and metrology equipment.

Kang Kwan-woo, former Morgan Stanley executive and CEO of The Premier, told Alpha Economy: “With Samsung’s Taylor foundry nearing operation, the global semiconductor market structure is poised for significant change. Explosive demand for AI chips, coupled with the Tesla partnership, will cement Samsung’s position as a leading supplier of AI system semiconductors and reshape the global technology and industrial landscape.”
