[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] Seoul, May 9, 2025 – Doosan Robotics, a collaborative robot (cobot) subsidiary of South Korea’s Doosan Group, is reportedly in the process of pursuing a strategic acquisition of a North American software company to enhance its capabilities in intelligent robotics solutions.
According to industry sources, Doosan Robotics’ due diligence team recently conducted an on-site inspection of the target company, referred to as Company A, as part of a preliminary assessment. A final decision regarding the potential acquisition is expected as early as the third quarter of this year.
The move reflects Doosan Robotics’ ambition to evolve into a comprehensive intelligent robotics solutions provider, integrating hardware, software, and artificial intelligence (AI). By applying AI technologies, intelligent robots can optimize task sequences and movement paths, significantly reducing operational time.
To bolster this transition, Doosan Robotics is actively expanding its talent pool. The company plans to hire AI and humanoid robot specialists, targeting an increase equivalent to 25% of its current workforce within the year. It also expects to complete construction of a new integrated R&D center in the third quarter.
The company’s strategic pivot is driven by rapid growth in the AI-based robotics market. Industry analysts anticipate rising demand for multifunctional AI robots, especially as declining population trends heighten the need for automated solutions. A report from Morgan Stanley projects the global market for AI-based robotic solutions will expand from approximately KRW 6 trillion in 2030 to around KRW 338 trillion by 2040.
Founded in 2015, Doosan Robotics initially focused on hardware development, entering the market later than its peers. To catch up, it pursued aggressive portfolio expansion to secure market share. The current M&A initiative marks a new phase in its long-term vision of becoming a leader in intelligent robotics.
