[Alpha Biz= Ellie Kim] A contractor employee involved in a stabbing incident at LG Electronics is facing a court decision on whether to be formally detained.
According to legal authorities on May 28, the Seoul Southern District Court is set to hold a pre-arrest hearing for a 60-year-old suspect accused of attempted murder and aggravated assault. The suspect allegedly attacked two LG Electronics employees at the company’s Magok office in Seoul on May 27.
Police stated that although the suspect denied intent to kill, the severity and nature of the injuries led investigators to apply attempted murder charges in addition to aggravated assault.
The suspect was apprehended at Digital Media City (DMC) Station shortly after the incident, following a police response to reports of two injured individuals. The victims sustained serious injuries to areas including the torso and arms but are not in life-threatening condition.
During questioning, the suspect reportedly claimed the attack was driven by anger over workplace treatment and a recent dismissal notice. However, the victims denied these allegations, stating that work-related adjustments had been handled through the contractor’s management.
Authorities are continuing their investigation, while the court will determine whether to issue a detention warrant.
