[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] A fire that broke out at SPC Samlip’s Siheung plant in Gyeonggi Province was brought under control after approximately four hours, local authorities said.

Fire officials received an emergency call and issued a Level 1 response at 3:06 p.m. The blaze was fully extinguished at 6:55 p.m., after which the response level was lifted.

The fire occurred on the third floor of Building R, a four-story production facility, specifically at a bread production line. At the time of the incident, 12 workers were on duty on the third floor. Three workers sustained minor injuries after inhaling smoke, according to fire authorities.

A fire official said suppression efforts were hampered by the large size of the building and limited access routes, adding that the intensity of the flames contributed to the prolonged response time.

Police and fire authorities plan to conduct a joint on-site investigation at 10 a.m. on March 4, based on worker testimonies indicating that an explosion-like sound was heard during the early stages of the fire.
