Card Issuers Stop Issuing Co-branded Cards with Asiana Airlines Amid Merger

[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] Card issuers in South Korea have begun suspending the issuance of co-branded cards and mileage transfer services with Asiana Airlines as the merger between Asiana and Korean Air progresses.

According to financial industry sources on Tuesday, Asiana Airlines has requested the suspension of its co-branded cards or mileage transfer services with eight card companies, including Samsung, Hyundai, Shinhan, KB Kookmin, NH Nonghyup, BC, Hana, and Woori. These card companies have either announced or are set to announce the termination dates for related services.


Shinhan Card, Lotte Card, and BC Card will halt the issuance of new co-branded cards after March 30. NH Nonghyup Card ceased renewals on March 2 and will end new issue services via non-face-to-face channels from March 19.


KB Kookmin Card will stop converting its own points, "Pointree," into Asiana mileage. Other card issuers are expected to finalize and notify customers of their suspension dates soon.
