[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] On June 22, Asiana Airlines flight OZ108, en route from Incheon International Airport to Narita Airport in Japan, was forced to return mid-flight due to an engine abnormality, according to industry sources.

The Airbus A330-300 aircraft, which is 11 years and 8 months old, returned safely to Incheon at 7:42 p.m. after taking off at 6:49 p.m. All 263 passengers on board were unharmed.

Witnesses reported seeing sparks and black smoke coming from the engine. Asiana Airlines guided affected passengers to a lounge for rest and arranged an alternative flight. The airline stated that a detailed investigation—including a possible bird strike—is underway to determine the cause of the incident.

A company representative said, “Returning was unavoidable for safety reasons. We sincerely apologize to our passengers for the inconvenience and will provide compensation accordingly.”
