[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] KB Kookmin Bank disclosed on May 9 that it has uncovered an internal embezzlement case involving ₩4.613 billion (approximately USD 3.4 million), marking the bank’s fourth reported financial incident this year.
According to the bank, an employee had processed loans using unsold commercial property units as collateral between February 2023 and January 2024. The employee allegedly falsified borrower information by listing individuals affiliated with the developers and contractors as buyers, rather than the actual buyers, in order to authorize the loans.
KB Kookmin Bank stated, “The incident was uncovered through our internal investigation. The employee has been placed on standby, and we plan to take further disciplinary actions, including filing criminal charges.”
This marks the fourth financial misconduct case disclosed by KB Kookmin Bank in 2024.
On May 2, the bank reported a ₩2.07 billion fraud case involving an external party. On April 19, it revealed another internal embezzlement case worth ₩2.19 billion, in which an employee manipulated a company's credit rating to issue loans. Earlier in February, a separate ₩2.22 billion incident was linked to a large-scale rental fraud scheme in Sejong City.
