[Alpha Biz= Kim Sangjin] Hyundai Introduces "Electric Vehicle Fire Assurance Program" to Alleviate Consumer Concerns

Hyundai Motor has launched an "Electric Vehicle Fire Assurance Program" to ease consumer concerns regarding electric vehicle (EV) fires, offering up to 10 billion KRW in damage support in case of a fire.

Hyundai announced Thursday that it has enhanced and renewed its integrated EV lifecycle care program, "EVrey Care," which was first introduced in February 2024. EVrey Care provides EV maintenance services based on the vehicle's lifecycle.

The newly introduced "Electric Vehicle Fire Assurance Program" will cover damages up to 10 billion KRW if an EV fire causes harm to the car owner's property or others and exceeds the owner's car insurance liability coverage. However, the program will not cover damages due to natural disasters, single-vehicle accidents, fraud, intentional accidents, motorsport-related incidents, or modifications to the vehicle such as battery alterations. Additionally, it will not apply if the fire is caused by third-party negligence, such as a charging operator's fault.

Hyundai is also strengthening its safety checks. The "Blue Assurance Checkup Service," which previously offered 8 checks over 8 years, will now provide 10 checks over 10 years, with one check annually. To address concerns about battery depletion, the program will also offer two emergency charging sessions per year, each providing 15kWh of charge. These benefits will be available in collaboration with insurance companies for both renewing and new car insurance policies.
