[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] SK Telecom (SKT) has reduced its executive count by 17% this year as part of its high-intensity Operational Improvement (OI) strategy aimed at expanding AI investments. This downsizing follows a fivefold increase in voluntary retirement support for senior employees last year, with the company's total workforce also shrinking by about 2%.

According to SKT’s business report released on Tuesday, the company had 94 non-registered executives as of the previous day, down from 113 at the end of last year—a reduction of 19 executives. In line with the group's broader "organizational streamlining" initiative, SKT significantly minimized promotions in its 2025 executive reshuffle.

While the company had promoted executives in double-digit numbers over the past three years, only three individuals were promoted this year. The number of executives who retired—rather than being transferred to subsidiaries—also more than doubled from eight last year to 18. This marks the largest reduction in executives in the past five years.

SKT's executive count had remained in the double digits before surpassing 100 last year, largely due to aggressive recruitment efforts as the company ramped up its AI business.
