[Alpha Biz= Reporter Cha Hye young] It has been confirmed that Samsung Electronics has reviewed the establishment of a cutting edge DRAM plant in the U.S. until the end.

According to the Alphabiz report on the 16th, it has been confirmed that Samsung Electronics has been agonizing over establishing a 10-nano state-of-the-art DRAM plant with 2-nano and 3-nano advanced process foundry factories in the U.S. city of Taylor until the last minute.

An official familiar with the internal situation at Samsung said, "I understand that the U.S. government's courtship of Samsung's high-tech semiconductor plant was considerable," adding, "Samsung also actively pushed for the establishment of a DRAM plant in Taylor, where conditions are much better than in Korea."

However, the relocation to the state-of-the-art DRAM plant is said to have been given up because the surrounding situation may not be easy, such as the Korean government's opposition.

In addition, as the U.S. government and the city of Taylor showed sincerity by actively pushing for permission for semiconductor packaging businesses that emit pollutants, Samsung also turned to the semiconductor packaging plant instead of the DRAM plant that they considered until the last minute.

Woo Ki-hoon, senior partner at Murepa Korea, said, "The Korean government's complacency toward Samsung ultimately created a situation where it almost gave up its DRAM factory, which was number one in the global semiconductor market," and added, "If the Korean government does not come up with various support measures like the U.S. government, it will not be able to achieve cutting-edge DRAM." "The factory relocation will not be considered, but will become a reality," he pointed out.

Samsung Electronics did not express any position in this regard.
