[Alpha Biz= Reporter Lee Joonhyun] Speculation has emerged that Samsung Electronics’ HBM4 failed NVIDIA’s final qualification test.
According to a post uploaded on Blind on Jan. 23 by a user claiming to be an SK hynix employee, the author wrote under the title “HBM4 QUAL FAIL” that Samsung’s HBM4 had failed NVIDIA’s final qualification process.
The post’s author, who identified himself as a member of SK hynix’s HBM mass-production division, claimed that “Samsung’s failure has led NVIDIA to request large-scale supply from SK hynix,” adding that “the volume required for the first half of the year is enormous—at a level that would require pushing manpower to the limit.”
However, SK hynix has not yet passed NVIDIA’s final qualification test for HBM4 intended for commercial supply. Industry sources note that the HBM4 currently being supplied by SK hynix is for testing purposes only, with an extremely low yield rate.
Previously, late last year, Samsung Electronics became the only company to advance to NVIDIA’s final qualification test for HBM4, ahead of rivals Micron and SK hynix.
