[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Coupang’s user base has returned to a downward trend after rebounding briefly, according to recent data.

Retail analytics firm WiseApp·Retail reported that Coupang’s monthly active users (MAU) totaled 33.38 million in April, down 0.2% from the previous month.

Coupang’s user numbers had declined for three consecutive months following the disclosure of a personal data breach last year, before rebounding in March. However, the latest figures suggest the platform has once again entered a period of stagnation.

The company also swung back to a loss in the first quarter of this year, posting an operating loss of 354.5 billion won, marking its first quarterly deficit in seven quarters amid the aftermath of the data breach.

Meanwhile, Naver’s Naver Plus Store is rapidly gaining traction.

The platform recorded 8.38 million MAU last month, up 5.5% month-on-month, overtaking AliExpress to rank third among comprehensive shopping apps.

The gap with Temu, currently ranked second, has also narrowed to around 30,000 users.

Industry watchers are now closely monitoring whether Naver Plus Store can surpass Chinese e-commerce platforms to become the second-largest comprehensive shopping app in the domestic market.
