[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Sangjin] There is growing speculation that Hyundai Rotem (064350) will be added to the MSCI Korea Index, while KT (030200), Celltrion Pharm (068760), and KUM YANG (001570) may be removed, resulting in a decrease in the number of constituents.
The final MSCI index composition review for this year is set to be released on the 7th. Major domestic securities firms anticipate that Hyundai Rotem will be added to the MSCI Korea Index, with at least three stocks, including KT, Celltrion Pharm, and KUM YANG, expected to be removed. If the proportion of Korean stocks in the index decreases further, Hyundai Engineering & Construction (000720), Cosmo Chemical (005070), and Hyundai Steel (004020) are seen as the most likely candidates for removal.
MSCI, developed by global investment bank Morgan Stanley, revises its index constituents four times a year: in February, May, August, and November. Being added to the index often leads to inflows of passive investment funds, attracting investor attention. The changes in MSCI constituents are based on trading data from the last 10 days starting from a randomly designated trading day, and the new index composition will be implemented on the 25th of this month.
