[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] LG Electronics has been embroiled in a class-action lawsuit in the U.S. It is claimed that the 'linear compressor', a key component of the refrigerator, causes frequent breakdowns. LG Electronics is arguing that "there is no product defect." It is expected that a fierce legal battle will take place in the future.

The linear compressor is a key component that serves to keep the food in the refrigerator cold.

According to NBC on the 1st, a class-action lawsuit was filed against LG Electronics' U.S. subsidiary and LG Electronics' original equipment manufacturing (OEM) company Kenmore. As of the end of last year, 102 people participated in the class action lawsuit.

LG Electronics countered that its linear compressor uses less energy and noise than other compressors.

An official of LG Electronics said, "The plaintiff's unilateral claim is appearing in the local media," he said. "There has been no proven defect in refrigerator products."
