[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Seoul, October 14 — Kakao Corp. has stated that it is technically impossible to roll back the latest KakaoTalk update to a previous version, amid growing user complaints over recent changes to the app.
At a parliamentary audit of the Science, ICT, Broadcasting, and Communications Committee, Woo Young-kyu, Vice President of Kakao, addressed questions from Democratic Party lawmaker Hwang Jeong-ah regarding user inconvenience following the update.
“Rolling back to an earlier version is technically impossible,” Woo said.
He clarified that in Kakao’s system, “rollback” refers to reverting from version 2.1 to 2.0, not reverting all the way back to a much earlier release such as version 1.0.
“Completely returning to a previous version is not feasible,” he explained.
Woo added that users who have not manually updated the app may continue to use the older version for now,
“but there could be issues with after-service (A/S) and app functionality.”
The remarks come as Kakao faces public backlash over usability and interface changes introduced in the latest KakaoTalk update, with users calling for the company to restore the previous version.
