[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Sangjin] Coupang has officially begun construction on its Gimcheon Advanced Logistics Center in Gyeongsangbuk-do, South Korea. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on the 7th at the Gimcheon 1st General Industrial Complex in Eomo-myeon, attended by approximately 100 people, including Kim Chun-seop, the Mayor of Gimcheon, Song Eon-seok, a member of the National Assembly (Gyeongbuk Gimcheon), and Park Dae-jun, CEO of Coupang.
The Gimcheon Advanced Logistics Center, set to be completed by September next year, will involve an investment of over 100 billion won, covering a floor area of approximately 9,600 pyeong (about 31,800 square meters). The center is intended to become a key hub for Coupang's "Rocket Delivery" service in the Gyeongsangbuk-do and Gimcheon areas.
This project follows a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between Coupang and the Gyeongsangbuk-do provincial government and Gimcheon city in 2020. The new logistics center will create around 500 jobs, with a focus on increasing youth employment. In addition to boosting local consumption through the construction and operation of the center, the project is expected to support the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the region by expanding national distribution channels. The expansion of the Rocket Delivery service in Gyeongbuk and Gimcheon will enhance convenience for local residents.
