[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] Apple is reportedly considering a price hike for its upcoming iPhone 17 series, which is expected to launch in September, according to a Wall Street Journal report on May 12 (local time).

The company is contemplating adding new features and redesigning the iPhone 17, while also reviewing the possibility of a price adjustment for the first time in three years. Although iPhones imported from China were recently exempt from tariffs under a decision by the Trump administration, a 20% "fentanyl tariff" still applies.

If Apple does not raise prices, its profit margins could suffer. The report states that Apple's management is wary of attributing the price increase solely to tariffs. Instead, the company is exploring other reasons to justify the price adjustment while ensuring its margins remain intact.

Apple has been shifting its iPhone production from China to India. This year, India is expected to account for over 26% of global iPhone shipments, double the previous year's share. However, there are concerns that this may not be sufficient to meet global demand, as high-margin models such as the Pro and Pro Max remain heavily dependent on Chinese factories.
