[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] SEOUL, June 5 — Hanwha Aerospace has suspended operations across most of its domestic production lines for safety inspections following a fatal explosion at its Daejeon facility.

According to industry sources, the company halted operations at nine sites on June 4–5, except for essential processes, marking its first group-wide production stoppage since its integration in 2023.

The move follows a June 1 blast that left five workers dead and two injured. Authorities have already ordered a shutdown at the Daejeon site, with no timeline set for resuming operations.

Hanwha said it will conduct comprehensive safety inspections and employee training, while also reviewing expanded automation of high-risk processes involving explosive materials.

Separately, Hanwha Group is carrying out broader safety checks across its chemical affiliates, reflecting heightened concerns over industrial risks in sectors handling hazardous materials.

The company plans to introduce strengthened safety measures, potentially including facility redesign, increased automation and tighter oversight of subcontractors.
