[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] SEOUL, November 14 — Korea’s Ministry of Employment and Labor has ordered SPC Samlip to review and strengthen its safety measures after a production worker in his 60s died at home last month following six consecutive night shifts. The union has raised the possibility of overwork-related death.


Commissioner Ryu Hyun-chul met with SPC Samlip CEO Kim Beom-su and expressed deep regret over repeated industrial fatalities at the company. He instructed SPC to closely examine the impact of its newly revised shift system—introduced after President Lee Jae-myung criticized long night shifts—and to implement effective countermeasures.


SPC said it has already moved to a three-shift system, reducing average weekly working hours from 52 to about 42, and plans to restore a five-day workweek after additional hiring.
