[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Minyoung] KEPCO is seeking voluntary retirement for employees with the aim of implementing it in mid-June.
KEPCO is considering expanding the scope of voluntary retirement to some low-annual employees, while it plans to implement voluntary retirement centered on senior employees who have been employed for more than 20 years. It is said that employees under the fourth year of employment can also be eligible for voluntary retirement.
"We are pushing for voluntary retirement with the aim of mid-June, but detailed plans have yet to be finalized," KEPCO said on the 25th. "We plan to announce it after a labor-management agreement and personnel committee."
KEPCO is the largest public corporation in Korea responsible for power infrastructure for the national period from the construction of transmission and distribution networks to operation.
It is the first time in 15 years since 2009 that KEPCO has received voluntary retirement, and the second time since its foundation. In particular, it is analyzed that considering whether to voluntary retirement even for low-annual employees is in line with the serious financial crisis of 200 trillion won in debt.
In an additional self-rescue plan announced in November last year, KEPCO announced a plan to reduce its headquarters by 20% and streamline its workforce.
A KEPCO official said, "The specific application schedule and consolation money for voluntary retirement will be decided only after labor-management agreements."
