[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] SEOUL – NH Investment & Securities announced on July 31 that it will conduct a ₩650 billion rights offering to bolster capital for its planned Integrated Investment Account (IMA) business.
The board approved a third-party allocation to its largest shareholder, NH Financial Holdings. Once the rights issue is completed, NH Investment will meet the ₩8 trillion capital requirement needed to qualify as an IMA operator.
NH Investment has formed a task force (TF), led by CEO Yoon Byung-woon, with the goal of submitting its IMA license application within Q3 (July–September).
What is an IMA?
The Integrated Investment Account (IMA) allows securities firms to guarantee principal while investing customer deposits in a broad range of corporate finance products such as corporate loans and bonds.
For investors, IMAs offer both security and returns. For brokerages, however, IMAs carry strict capital requirements since they must ensure principal protection while delivering yields that outperform bank deposit rates.
This capital injection positions NH Investment & Securities to secure approval and compete in the lucrative IMA sector.
