[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] The Korean film “The Man Living with the King” has surpassed 12 million moviegoers, drawing attention to the potential earnings of its director Jang Hang-jun.

According to distributor Showbox, the film passed the 12 million ticket mark on March 11, surpassing “Exhuma,” which recorded about 11.91 million viewers in 2024. It is the 20th Korean film to exceed 12 million admissions.

The film’s break-even point is estimated at about 2.6 million viewers, meaning it has already exceeded that threshold by roughly 9.4 million admissions.

In the Korean film industry, directors often receive a “running guarantee” incentive tied to box office performance once a movie surpasses its break-even point.

Given that such bonuses are typically set at 300 to 500 won per viewer, Jang’s additional earnings are estimated to range between 2.8 billion won and 4.7 billion won. Including his base directing fee, his total income from the film could reach tens of billions of won.

However, the exact contract structure and payment terms have not been disclosed.
