[Alpha Biz= Kim Sangjin] Korean Air is reviewing regulations on carrying power banks onboard, as well as fire response measures. During this process, options such as placing zippered bags for storing portable power banks in seat pockets and controlling the storage of power banks in overhead compartments are also being considered.

On the 5th, a Korean Air spokesperson stated, "We plan to strengthen customer guidance on power bank carry-on and storage regulations, as well as fire response training for crew members." They added, "We are working with relevant authorities to review additional measures to prevent power banks from being stored in overhead compartments for safety."

In light of the recent fire on an Air Busan flight, which is believed to have been caused by a power bank, Korean airlines are tightening regulations related to carrying and storing power banks onboard.

Previously, Asiana Airlines decided to prohibit storing power banks in the overhead compartments. They also started making announcements asking passengers to carry their power banks themselves. Additionally, the airline plans to equip all aircraft with "battery fire suppression equipment."

Low-cost carriers (LCCs) are showing similar trends. Air Busan will begin checking for batteries in carry-on luggage at the boarding gate from the 7th, marking the items with stickers or tags. Only luggage with these marks will be allowed to be stored in overhead compartments.

Air Seoul will make in-flight announcements telling passengers not to store batteries, lighters, or cell phones in the overhead compartments, but to carry them personally. T’way Air will also make similar announcements before and after boarding. They will also guide passengers to pack power banks in ziplock bags.
