[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] The site manager of POSCO E&C has been formally charged following a fatal construction accident on the Hamyang–Ulsan Expressway in Uiryeong County, South Gyeongsang Province. The incident occurred in July last year, when a man in his 60s was caught in construction machinery and died.

The Changwon District Prosecutors’ Office (Masan branch) announced on January 19 that the site manager, identified as A (50s), has been detained and charged with professional negligence resulting in death and violations of the Occupational Safety and Health Act. In addition, B, the safety team leader responsible for overseeing site safety, and C, the construction team leader supervising the worker, were charged with professional negligence but remain out on bail.

According to prosecutors, basic safety measures, including protective covers on the drilling machine, were not properly implemented at the site. Despite warnings from the victim about the danger of machinery entanglement, effective safety protocols were not enforced, reportedly due to short-term cost-saving measures.
