Korean private investors bought 1.3 trillion won worth of Japanese stocks for a year

[Alpha Biz= Reporter Paul Lee] Local stock investors bought KRW 1.3 trillion worth of Japanese stocks over a year, a report showed.

According to the "Sales Trends by Investment Sector" released by the Tokyo Stock Exchange on the previous day, the net purchase of Japanese stocks by foreign investors in the fiscal year 2023 (April 2023 to March 2024) totaled 7.69 trillion yen (about 68.9 trillion won). In fiscal 2022, foreigners sold a net 1.8 trillion yen worth of Japanese stocks, and shifted to net buying in fiscal 2023, three years after fiscal 2020.

From April last year to January this year, when Japanese stock prices rose in earnest, net purchases of Japanese stocks in Europe amounted to 8.7038 trillion yen, accounting for 90% of all foreign net purchases during the period. By country, the UK's average monthly net purchase amounted to JPY 823.1 billion during the period, a significant increase compared to the average monthly net purchase amount (JPY 7.4 billion) from April 2018 to March 2023. Hong Kong has the second-largest net purchase after the United Kingdom, with an average monthly purchase of JPY 99.8 billion during the period.

Korea bought Japanese stocks for 12 consecutive months from April last year to last month. According to the Korea Securities Depository, the purchase amount reached $ 1 billion (about 1.35 trillion won).
