[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] Seoul, January 11, 2026 – Aekyung Industrial Co., Ltd. announced a voluntary recall of six variants of its 2080 toothpaste products after trace amounts of the preservative triclosan were detected. The recall applies to all affected products regardless of manufacturing date or proof of purchase.
The affected products were imported from Chinese manufacturer Domy. During internal quality inspections, Aekyung Industrial confirmed the presence of triclosan and immediately suspended production and distribution while initiating a full recall. Consumers are advised to return the products to retail outlets or contact Aekyung Industrial customer service for guidance on refunds and returns.
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) is conducting on-site inspections and testing the recalled products. Authorities will investigate the entire manufacturing and import process to determine the source and route of contamination. If any violations of safety or import regulations are identified, the MFDS has stated that strict administrative measures will be taken.
Consumer advocacy group Green Consumers Network emphasized the need for transparency, calling for clear disclosure of the cause, duration, and detection process. The group highlighted unresolved questions, including whether the ingredient was verified before sale, whether the supplier was aware of triclosan inclusion, and the timeline from detection to recall.
Aekyung Industrial said, “Upon confirming the presence of triclosan, we immediately halted production and distribution. Over 99% of the affected products have already been recovered. Consumer safety remains our top priority, and we are working closely with the MFDS to ensure a thorough and transparent resolution.”
