[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Sangjin] On the 10th, the Fair Trade Commission (FTC) imposed a fine of 46 million won and issued a corrective order to Bodyfriend for falsely advertising that its "Azera Plus" massage chair could improve memory and concentration.

According to the FTC, Bodyfriend made misleading claims in the user manual of the Azera Plus massage chair between March and September 2021, stating that its "brain massage program" could enhance memory and concentration or "boost focus."

The brain massage program combines physical massage with binaural beats, piano music, and nature sounds aimed at promoting relaxation and healing.

The FTC criticized Bodyfriend for failing to provide objective and rational evidence to support these claims. It pointed out that consumers, especially when dealing with specialized areas such as binaural beats, are likely to trust the information provided by businesses without deeper scrutiny. As a result, consumers could be misled into believing that the brain massage program would have actual effects on improving concentration and memory.
