[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Asiana Airlines has disclosed that its internal intranet system was breached by an external cyberattack, resulting in the leakage of personal information belonging to employees. The company confirmed that no customer data was compromised.
According to the airline industry, Asiana Airlines issued an internal notice at around 2:30 p.m. on December 25 informing employees of the data breach. The company said the incident involved unauthorized external access to its internal intranet system, Telepia, via an overseas server on the previous day.
The breach reportedly exposed personal information of more than 10,000 individuals, including Asiana employees and staff from partner companies such as call centers. The leaked data included encrypted passwords, employee ID numbers, departments, job titles, names, phone numbers, and email addresses.
Upon detecting the breach, Asiana Airlines immediately blocked remote access and reset all employee intranet passwords. The company also reported the incident to relevant authorities, including the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA), on the following day.
