[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Chinese e-commerce platform Temu is making a direct entry into the South Korean market. After launching its Korean-language website in 2023 to sell Chinese products via cross-border shipping, Temu will open an open marketplace in Korea on Tuesday, allowing local sellers to register and sell their products on the platform.
Previously, Temu primarily sold "Made in China" products through international shipping. However, the company now plans to recruit Korean sellers and enable the direct delivery of "Made in Korea" products to customers. A Temu representative stated, "This will enable faster deliveries and allow the sale of bulkier items."
Industry experts expect Temu to follow a similar strategy to AliExpress, which has been expanding its presence in South Korea. Temu is likely to hire staff to manage local sellers and invest in logistics centers to improve delivery speed.
