[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] South Korea’s CJ Group is facing heightened scrutiny after a second data breach incident within weeks, this time involving its streaming platform TVING.
Tving announced on June 3 that unauthorized access to its database had been detected a day earlier, leading to a potential leak of user information. The compromised data includes user IDs, names, dates of birth, and gender. The company said the exact scale of the breach is still under investigation.
The incident follows a separate data leak reported in mid-May, in which personal information of around 330 female employees within CJ Group—including photos, phone numbers, job titles, and names—was illegally shared in a Telegram chatroom with approximately 2,800 participants.
CJ Group has identified the employee responsible for the earlier leak and filed a complaint with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency on charges of violating personal data protection laws. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances of the breach and tracking the operator of the Telegram channel.
The back-to-back incidents have raised concerns over data security and internal control systems within the group, increasing anxiety among users and employees alike.
