[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] Authorities have formally booked the CEO of Hanwha Aerospace in connection with the recent explosion at its Daejeon facility that left multiple casualties.
According to the investigation team at the Daejeon Metropolitan Police Agency on June 8, labor authorities have charged CEO Son Jae-il with violations of South Korea’s Serious Accidents Punishment Act. The head of the Daejeon plant, identified as Gae Jae-woong, has also been booked for violations of the Occupational Safety and Health Act.
Police have additionally charged the plant head with professional negligence resulting in death and injury. A total of three individuals, including a witness, have been placed under travel bans.
Investigators have so far questioned seven company-related personnel and five bereaved family members. Authorities plan to continue analyzing seized materials and conduct further interviews.
Earlier, on June 4, police carried out search and seizure operations at the Daejeon plant, Hanwha headquarters, and its R&D campus, securing approximately 5,400 documents and electronic records. Six mobile phones belonging to related personnel have also been confiscated and are undergoing digital forensic analysis.
