[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Police have summoned Park Dae-joon, former Korea head of Coupang, for a second round of questioning over allegations of perjury during a National Assembly hearing.

According to sources on June 9, the anti-corruption investigation unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency called in Park as a suspect under the Act on Testimony and Appraisal before the National Assembly.

Park is accused of providing false testimony during a parliamentary hearing on December 30 last year related to the death of a Coupang logistics center worker, who died in October 2020. At the time, allegations were raised that company officials exchanged messages attempting to conceal the case as an industrial accident.

Park denied such claims during the hearing, stating that no messages had been exchanged to cover up the incident.

The day after the hearing, the National Assembly’s Science, ICT, Broadcasting and Communications Committee voted to file complaints against seven current and former Coupang executives, including Park, Kim Bom-suk, and interim CEO Harold Rogers, for alleged violations of the testimony law.

Separately, Park was previously questioned as a witness in January over allegations that he provided an expensive meal to an independent lawmaker ahead of a parliamentary audit.
