[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] SEOUL, May 27 — SK Nexilis has secured a favorable jury verdict in a U.S. patent infringement case against Solus Advanced Materials, involving key copper foil technologies used in secondary batteries.

According to the company, a jury in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas found that Solus infringed on all five asserted patents related to SK Nexilis’ copper foil manufacturing technology. The patents cover processes that enhance battery durability and performance by improving structural stability and reducing defects such as wrinkles and tearing.

The verdict follows litigation initiated by SK Nexilis in November 2023. A formal court ruling is expected within weeks, with subsequent proceedings to determine damages and potential royalty payments.

Solus Advanced Materials said it disagrees with the jury’s findings and plans to file post-trial motions, including a request for judgment as a matter of law, and will appeal if the court upholds the verdict.

The company added that the dispute will not affect its supply to global customers or its expansion strategy in North America.
